Assistant Pastor – Discipleship & Communications
The Assistant Pastor will serve alongside the Lead Pastor to help fulfill the church’s vision:
“To develop an authentic community of disciples who honor Jesus Christ
and share His love with everyone.”
This role focuses primarily on leading and championing the church’s discipleship pathway so that it helps people grow in spiritual maturity, discover and use their gifts, and multiply disciples.
The Assistant Pastor will also assist with preaching, leadership development, as well as provide oversight of church communications and technology.
The ideal candidate will be a spiritually mature and relational leader with a passion for disciple-making, the ability to equip and empower others for ministry, and possess the organizational skills necessary to help ministries move forward effectively within a rural church context.
Responsibilities Include:
Discipleship Development & Oversight
• Evaluate, advocate for, and implement a clear churchwide discipleship pathway that includes:
Connection – helping people connect to Christ and the church community
Engagement (Growth) – encouraging spiritual growth through groups, Bible study, and relationships
Empowerment – identifying spiritual gifts and equipping people for ministry involvement
Multiplication – developing disciples who make disciples
• Support and evaluate discipleship groups and ministry placement to ensure alignment with church vision and doctrine
• Recruit, train, encourage, and support group facilitators and ministry leaders
• Review and approve discipleship curriculum and resources in coordination with the Lead Pastor
• Develop intentional systems that help people connect to Christ, build meaningful relationships, grow spiritually, and engage in ministry.
Teaching & Pastoral Ministry
• Serve as part of the teaching team alongside the Lead Pastor
• Preach on a rotational basis as directed by the Lead Pastor
• Assist with pastoral care, leadership development, and ministry support as needed
• Assist in planning, promoting, and actively participate in church events, ministry activities, and outreach opportunities
Communications & Technology Oversight
• Manage church communications, including:
Church website
Church app
Email communications
Announcement slides
Social media and digital communication tools as applicable
• Lead and support the church technical team
• Ensure church communications clearly support the vision and ministries of the church
Success in this role will be reflected in increasing spiritual engagement, healthy disciple-making relationships, leadership development, and clear communication that supports the vision of the church.
Leadership & Administration
• Report directly to the Lead Pastor
• Attend monthly Local Board of Administration meetings
• Participate in staff meetings, ministry planning, and leadership development
• Assist in implementing church goals and ministry strategies
• Work collaboratively with church staff, ministry leaders, and church board
Qualifications
• A growing and authentic relationship with Jesus Christ
• Agreement with the church’s doctrine, mission, and vision
• Demonstrates a heart for discipleship and spiritual formation
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills
• Ability to teach and communicate effectively
• Experience leading groups, volunteers, or ministry teams preferred
• Basic proficiency with church technology, communications platforms, and media systems
• Formal ministry training or ministry experience preferred
• Humble and teachable spirit
• Relational and approachable
• Self-motivated and dependable
• Team-oriented
• Passionate about rural church ministry and community engagement
• Able to equip and empower others for ministry

We are looking for someone who:

• Is willing to learn Planning Center, ProPresenter, and basic sound system needs
• Has a heart to mentor and grow musicians within the church
